BLACKPINK is in your area, and coming to your screens — or, one member of BLACKPINK is. On July 17, the world got its first peek at The Idol, the upcoming HBO thriller drama series “from the sick and twisted minds” of Euphoria creator Sam Levinson and Abel Tesfaye, aka The Weeknd.
The trailer is… a lot, to say the least, showing flashes of money, drugs, and salacious party scenes that seem to be Sam Levinson’s trademark. There’s more than a few familiar faces tacked on to the project that can be spotted throughout the teaser. Of course you peeped the show’s stars Lily Rose-Depp and The Weeknd, but did you also catch BLACKPINK’s very own Jennie Kim in the background as a dancer? Go ahead and rewind!
The K-pop singer is set to make her Hollywood debut with her role in The Idol, which is still very much under wraps. But according to Jennie, we should all be on the edge of our seats. “I found the script very intriguing, so I wanted to be part of the series,” Jennie said in a statement to Korean news outlet Yonhap. “I feel very excited. I’ll work hard, so please watch me with affection.”
Got that, Blinks? The Idol follows a rising popstar (Lily Rose-Depp) who falls into a complex relationship with a self-help guru and modern-day cult leader (The Weeknd), set against the backdrop of the cutthroat music industry in Hollywood. On-screen text in the trailer calls the new original series “the sleaziest love story in all of Hollywood.”
Jennie’s casting in The Idol was confirmed by HBO on July 18, with a tweeted announcement that also shared a behind the scenes pic of Jennie on the set of the show.
