What may seem like a quick process actually begins early on. Lakeyah’s team started conceptualizing the show’s flow months prior. Stylist Khiante Hardy said she was going for “young, fly, and sexy.” The rapper sported a bright neon green Cadet Couture design. Complete with figure-enhancing cutouts and opera-length gloves for that extra flare.
Ahead of her performance, Teen Vogue asked the rapper – beyond the look, how else does she organize the rest of the performance? Lakeyah then mentioned the importance of a good setlist. “I choose my set list based on the songs that are most streamed and what I know my fans want to hear. Plus, I like to balance my breathing, so I choose some songs where I can slow down,” she said.
A few hours later, the crowd was chanting, anticipating her arrival, and the time had finally come. And as soon as the DJ dropped her track- Lakeyah’s entire demeanor changed. The rapper says, “I go out there, and I’m a whole different person.” Following her performance, Lakeyah and her team were ever-so proud, and you could literally feel an overwhelming sense of fulfillment in the room. When asked what piece of wisdom she wanted to leave with her fans, she said with a smile, “stick to who you are. Don’t try to do what the other girls do.”
