Since the band’s split in 2016, One Direction fans have been hoping, praying, and wishing for a reunion. Turns out Harry Styles is actually open to the possibility of reuniting 1D in the future, and thinks it could be “really nice.”
While appearing on a recent episode of The Spout podcast, Harry told host Tamara Dhia that a 1D reunion is definitely not out of the question.
“I don’t know. I mean, I think the thought of it is really nice,” said Harry. “I think we all went through something really special together and there’s a lot of love there. So yeah, I think if there’s a moment for us to do it in the right way, I think it’d be great.”
The band celebrated their 10-year anniversary in 2020, and its members — Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik (who left the band in 2015) — have been asked about a potential reunion countless times since embarking on solo careers.
Harry’s answers have been pretty consistent, sticking to a “never say never” philosophy. Louis said in February 2020 that a 1D reunion or reformation of the band was “inevitable,” and that same month, Niall said they would “absolutely ridiculous” to not reconnect. “We haven’t really spoken about the ‘whens’ but we do know we will,” Niall said then. “We have all said individually that we will and I think it would be stupid if we didn’t.”
1D has been back in the headlines as of late, with former “frontman” Liam Payne sharing gossip about the band’s heyday on Logan Paul’s podcast, singling out members he had beef with and revealing he almost got into a fight with another member backstage during a show.
Zayn, who has commented the least on the potential of the band getting back together — in any capacity — recently broke the Internet when he acknowledged 1D for the first time in years. In an eight-second video of him singing that he posted to his Instagram and Twitter, Zayn hit that famous high note in 1D’s 2013 song “You & I.” The clip awakened dormant Directioners all across the globe, with all-caps replies to the post reading, “1D REUNION???” and “ZAYN SINGING 1D AGAIN HOW I’VE MISSED YOU.”
We’ll never stop holding out hope for a One Direction reunion, and maybe… just maybe… it’s closer on the horizon than we think.
