Actor Joseph Quinn knew he needed to nail an American accent to play the scene-stealing Eddie Munson in Stranger Things season four, but the process of perfecting it proved a bit more difficult than he originally thought — until co-star Joe Keery stepped in to help.

As noted by Variety, breakout star Joseph recently told the Off Menu podcast that the experience of perfecting an American accent made him feel like a “sociopath” at first; the stakes were high and he was stressed. (Joseph is British.)

“After awhile I was so far down the rabbit hole, at points I’d be like, ‘Do I sound good? Do you like this? Do you like what I’m doing?’” Joseph shared.

Thankfully his on-set pal Joe Keery was available to help soothe his worries about the accent so he could take on his scenes with confidence. “I was talking to Joe Keery and at one point I was so deep in it… and he was like ‘Dude, I can’t save you, but I promise you it’s gonna be fine.’”

And guess what? It totally was, as Joseph went on to steal practically every scene as the magnetic and charismatic Eddie Munson, the Hellfire Club’s leader. Joseph’s character may have only been around for one season, but he made a lasting impact, stealing the hearts of the Hawkins gang and the Stranger Things cast, crew, and fandom. (And Doja Cat!)

“We fell in love with Eddie. We fell in love with Joe,” series creator Matt Duffer said of Joseph joining the fourth season’s cast. “I think everybody in the cast fell in love with him.” So true, Matt. So true.
