The Kardashians live their lives in the public eye. From paparazzi shots to social media to red carpet events, we see Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, and the rest of the Kar-Jenner crew 24/7 in real time, which occasionally makes it difficult to cover big events on their reality show, The Kardashians.
While the new Hulu series breaks the fourth wall in a way the previous E! series did not, fans still believe a pivotal scene from the season finale was “faked” and recorded way after it actually happened.
Continuity errors are nothing new in Kardashian-land; there was both a Tumblr page and a series in The Cut about the “Kontinuity errors” of the family’s show. But the latest flag is the family meeting shown in The Kardashians Season 1 finale, a meeting that takes place after Khloé discovers her boyfriend Tristan Thompson hadn’t just cheated on her, but fathered a child, too.
The scene was supposed to take place in late November/early December 2021. Yet, fans on Reddit noticed that Kourtney’s outfit and manicure in the scene had been snapped by paparazzi on January 31. Did the family re-film and recreate their post-discovery meeting, or was it just a coincidence?
Fans also noted the family’s lack of emotion in the scene. “Explains why they were so emotionless about it all. I wish they had stuck to a real timeline rather than jumble it around to have a good final episode. Do better Hulu,” wrote one social media user.
On June 21, while appearing at a NYC event to promote the launch of her new skincare line SKKN, Kim Kardashian responded to those who believe The Kardashians is staged or a secretly scripted TV series.
“I don’t think if we sat down with writers for a scripted sitcom and they tried to write out what our family drams would be, [that] they would even come up with that,” said Kim. “Like, ‘Oh and then stepdad’s gonna do this, and then your mom is gonna act like this, and then your sisters… They just would never have written that and it be believable.”
While we all know that reality television isn’t always as authentic as it’s made out to be, both things could be true. The family probably did hold a meeting to discuss Tristan’s infidelity, but it might not have been filmed — hence the possible scene recreation that may not be accurate to the “timeline.”
But Kim’s right — the Kardashian family drams can be so wild, it’s easy to seem unbelievable entirely.
