Pete Davidson has a unique sense of style. Bucking trends and straight-off-the-catwalk garb, the former SNL frontman favors Grateful Dead tie-dye tees, comfy Stay Cool NYC sweatpants, and checkerboard cargo shorts. Earlier this year, he told GQ that his “relationship with fashion is easy. I don’t overthink things”. During a styling session with Queer Eye’s Tan France on SNL in 2018 he memorably described his style as “guido trash.”
Unsurprisingly, Pete rethought his image when he started dating Kim Kardashian back in 2021. While it wasn’t the sort of life-changing makeover we’ve seen France, Antoni, et al put their eager subjects through on their hit show, the Kim Kardashian-ification of Pete Davidson’s style was all too clear. (After all, the billionaire socialite-turned-businesswoman is one of the most (if not the most) put-together women in the ‘biz, and she’s no stranger to mixing up her own style — gone are the circa 2014 Balmain peplum skirts; today she’s all about frame-fitting Balenciaga bodysuits.)
Take, for instance, his arrival at the premiere of The Kardashians back in April, where Davidson flexed a clean-cut, suited, and booted look consisting of a louche-fitting black suit, white tee, and a pair of Prada shades. By his side? The immaculate Kimmy K. Same case with the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner.
Then, notably, his Met Gala look was his most put-together fit to date. For the fashion industry’s BNO in May, where he was again flanked by Kim Kardashian, he went for a Vans-free fit comprising a tailored-to-perfection Dior double-breasted suit, polished patent loafers, boxy sunglasses, and a glitzy brooch. Again, so clean, so far from what we’d expect from the old Davidson and so Kardashian. Indeed, Kardashian was caught on film telling Davidson to remove a trucker cap in behind-the-scenes clips ahead of the gargantuan event.
