Homecoming season at Historically Black Universities (HBCUs) is a moment to reconnect with old friends and show off your new ‘fits. At Florida A&M University (FAMU) in Tallahassee, style always sits at the forefront. Lovingly known by students as the Fashion and Modeling University, FAMU’s Homecoming is a chance to see all the unique and stylish street-style moments around campus.
HBCU culture has always been known for its extravagance. Coming home to your alma mater to celebrate Black excellence is a beloved tradition across all 106 HBCU campuses. Homecoming is a week-long celebration filled with fashion and fun, from the fashion show to the football game and everything else in between.
On the fashion front, one standout staple we saw around “The Hill” this year was the iconic shopping bags from the Black-owned brand Telfar. From the mini to the large, we saw an assortment of telfeezys across FAMU’s campus in every colorway imaginable. Alongside the fan-favorite Telfar bag, we saw a lot of knee-high boots, Balenciaga-inspired futuristic sunglasses, large gold accessories, and micro mini skirts.
One standout fashion moment on FAMU’s campus is its weekly Set Friday. In 1993, Set Fridays started as a “Market Friday,” mainly focused on creating a space for student entrepreneurs to market and sell their products. Now, the longstanding tradition has evolved into a weekly reunion for students to dance, stroll and show off their favorite looks. Homecoming Set Friday is an elevated moment filled with current students, alums, and other Florida college students.
We’ve rounded up some of our favorite looks from this year’s FAMU Homecoming that will surely inspire your outfits for next year’s homecoming season.
