Chloë Grace Moretz Once Accidentally Ripped All Her Lashes Out

Chloë Grace Moretz has strong feelings about her lashes, and she’s letting the world know.

The actor recently shared her morning and off-duty beauty routines with Vogue and took the chance to chat about her eyelashes at length, revealing her “secret” mascara hack and reminiscing about the time she (accidentally) ripped out all of her eyelashes.

Chloë begins the video by sharing that she’s gravitated toward a more natural routine these days. Once Chloë has finished her extensive skin care routine, she moves on to makeup — and here’s thing gets interesting when she reveals how she sculpts her brows as well as her, ehm, unique method of applying mascara.

Chloë starts by using the cult favorite Göt2b Ultra Glued Invincible Styling Gel to set her brows, applying it with a spoolie brush for a laminated look. Once her brows are dry with the help of her hair dryer, she uses Brow Wiz to tint them just a bit.

After applying just a hint of eyeshadow, the actor reaches for her lash curler and reveals the tragic accident that caused her to lose her lashes. “One time, when I was younger, I didn’t know what I was doing, and I curled really hard, and I pulled, and all my lashes came out,” Chloë says in the video while cracking up.

“I was filming something. I think I was filming The 5th Wave, and I pulled all my eyelashes out on accident.” Ouch. “That’s how much I didn’t know about makeup! I’ll never do that again,” Chloë continues. “Don’t do that, kids. And don’t curl your eyelashes after you do your mascara.”

Once her lashes are curled, Chloë’s ready for mascara, and her go-to pick is a total drugstore classic: Maybelline Great Lash. But before she uses it, Chloë shares her — let’s call it inventive — hack: she adds a drop of water to the tube.

“I find that it really helps make it not clumpy,” she says. Now, Chloë doesn’t add a drop in every time she uses the product. She just adds it one time every time she buys a new one. The trick certainly works for her, but before you run to replicate it, we suggest you consult with your dermatologist or eye doctor first, as this will likely alter the product formulation, potentially affecting its shelf life.

Once her mascara is on and her now-intact lashes look gorgeous, Chloë mists on a bit of setting spray, and she’s ready to go, clump-free and fresh-faced. You can watch Chloë Grace Moretz’s routine in full below:
