Fun and games for the children’s team in Medway – The Paula Carr Diabetes Trust

Over the past few years, the Paula Carr Diabetes Trust has helped children’s diabetes teams across Kent to prepare Year 6 children living with type 1 diabetes for their move to secondary school. This year’s 627 was held on the 8th June at the Parkwood community centre. With 18 children attending, this was the busiest one yet.

This year’s group of  children  will be going to 12 different secondary schools, so  children were encouraged to work together and get to know others  who would be at the same school.

Various activities and talks took place –  the psychology team looked at worries/ anxieties about their new school and the nurses looked at carb counting and quizzes. A fun time was had by all with the ice breaker games and the parachute – used for what they would need to pack in their school bag.

There was lots of fun, running around chatting and swapping of addresses and phone numbers which was lovely to see.

The Paula Carr Diabetes Trust provided the children with goodie bags full of useful items for the start of their new school year – these proved a big hit!

Good luck from all at the Paula Carr to all the children with their journey ahead at secondary school.
