It Makes Selena Gomez “Sad” to See Where She Was in 2016

Ahead of the release of her “raw and intimate” documentary from Apple TV+, Selena Gomez has dropped the film’s musical companion, a moving piano-driven ballad that shares the doc’s title: “My Mind & Me.”

“Wanna hear a part to my story / I tried to hide in the glory and sweep it under the table so you would never know,” Selena sings in the opening. By the chorus, she’s set the tone for the incredible level of vulnerability we can expect from her new film.

“My Mind & Me / We don’t get along sometimes and it / Gets hard to breathe,” the song swells. “But I wouldn’t change my life / And all of the crashing and burning and breaking / I know now If somebody sees me like this then they won’t feel alone now.”

The track echoes the complicated feelings Selena has expressed about the uncut nature of the film in the lead-up to its release. She told Vulture earlier this week there were moments she felt “unsure” about how much of herself she was offering to the documentary,  and in her December cover story for Rolling Stone, said that she’s “just so nervous” for the film to be out in the world.

My Mind & Me, directed by Alek Keshishian, will trace a six-year period of Selena’s life and for the first time ever, shed light on some of the darkest moments of the superstar’s journey. In the official trailer for the film, which releases November 4, Selena says that she is “grateful to be alive.”

“Because I have the platform I have, it’s kind of like I’m sacrificing myself a little bit for a greater purpose,” Selena told Rolling Stone of the doc. “I don’t want that to sound dramatic, but I almost wasn’t going to put this out. God’s honest truth, a few weeks ago, I wasn’t sure I could do it.”
