You can say what you want about Joshua Bassett, but nobody can deny that he has a sense of humor. Case in point: his latest TikTok videos.
Joshua has been extremely active on the app as of late, and recently joined in on the trend that uses the “TapTapABC” filter by user @janmahavan. Usually, TikTok users use the filter with a specific song and tap along to its cadence. The letter it lands on with the final beat determines the answer to your question.
Joshua decided to switch things up and be more direct. “First letter is the love of my life,” the singer and actor, who is sitting comfortably on his sofa, proclaims before tapping the screen. As soon as he does, a big “O” appears.
Now, if you’re new here, you might wonder why he instantly shot a painfully awkward look to the camera. The answer is simple enough: Joshua appears to be trolling himself about his past relationship with his High School Musical: The Musical: The Series co-star Olivia Rodrigo.
The pair, who are now amicable, never did confirm their relationship — unless you count this TikTok as confirmation, of course — but Olivia’s massive debut hit “drivers license” has long been speculated to be inspired by her and Joshua Bassett’s breakup. (Joshua himself has talked about the song in the past, essentially confirming the inspiration).
And that’s what you missed on Glee. As soon as he gets the “O,” Joshua backtracks and changes his statement. “Second letter is the love of my life,” he says, tapping the screen again to reveal another letter. “Okay, ‘Q,’ I’ll take it.” Joshua’s TikTok was posted on October 11, and has accumulated over 11 million views and over two million likes in less than a day.
As mentioned above, this isn’t the only video the star has been posting. In fact, he’s already uploaded five new ones since the previous one we mentioned. One, in particular, has noticeably been getting more traction as it appears to be a direct response to viewers’ comments and reactions.
Joshua, who’s now ditched the gray hoodie he’d been sporting in his previous videos, is shirtless, wet, and back on his sofa. The reason why he’s shirtless can be explained, naturally, by another one of his TikTok videos, which we’ll just drop below for continuity purposes.
Okay, back to shirtless Joshua. “Some of you are saying I’m unhinged… Some of you are saying, ‘Josh, are you okay?’” he says as he vaguely gestures at the camera. “Yes and no!” Welp.
Of course, all of Joshua’s recent TikToks seem to be part of a rollout strategy to promote his latest record “would you love me now?,” which came out on October 6. The “surprise single” arrived only a few weeks after the release of his EP Sad Songs In a Hotel Room, which dropped on September 23. Joshua has another new song coming out on October 13, titled “SHE SAID HE SAID SHE SAID” — so buckle up for potentially even more (unhinged) TikToks.
