Ladies and gentlemen, Kendrick Lamar.
Kendrick Lamar returned to SNL on Saturday (Oct. 1) as the musical guest for the show’s 48th season premier.
For his first performance, K.Dot performed “Rich Spirit” inside a white box with blue lights and his silhouette dancing behind him. As lights began to flicker, the rap superstar segued into “N95” with other silhouettes and scriptures projecting behind him. Kendrick also dedicated the performance to Kee Riches, the 23-year-old L.A. rapper, who was fatally shot in Compton last week.
Mr. Morales later returned to the 30 Rock Stage with a performance of “Father Time” with guest Sampha. Back in the white box, the pair ran through the powerful collaboration in a bedroom setting as the walls start closing in.
All three tracks performed are off Kendrick Lamar’s chart-topping album, Mr. Morales & The Hotsteppers. Kendrick’s last musical appearance on SNL was in 2014, where he performed “i” and “Pay For It” with Jay Rock. In 2018, he joined Anderson.Paak as his special guests for “Tints”.
