Latest “Wakanda Forever” Trailer Reveals the New Black Panther

On October 3, Marvel released the full official trailer for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, one of the most highly-anticipated sequels in MCU history.

The first teaser trailer for the film was dropped back in July, and showed a glimpse of how the African kingdom is coping with the loss of King T’Challa/Black Panther, who was portrayed by Chadwick Boseman. Chadwick originated the role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the release of Black Panther in 2018. In August 2020, the esteemed actor passed away after a four-year battle with colon cancer.

Following Chadwick’s death, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige announced that “it was much too soon” to recast T’Challa, and would instead introduce a new character as the hero — much like Captain America’s changing of the guard from Steve Rogers (played by Chris Evans) to Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie).

“The world is still processing the loss of Chad,” Kevin told Empire Magazine last month. It’s true, especially for those who personally knew and loved Chadwick, like Black Panther and Wakanda Forever director Ryan Coogler.

“I had to find a way that I felt like I could keep going and a way that our Black Panther family could keep going,” Ryan told Entertainment Weekly about returning for the sequel. “I started to come up with a film that had elements of the film that we had just finished writing, but also applied the themes that the people who were hurting just as much as me could actually perform and execute and come out on the other side whole.”

The product of this approach seems to be one of the MCU’s grandest films yet — and if the full-length trailer is any indication, it’s going to be an epic event to close out Phase Four. Today, we get our best look yet at new and returning characters and the film’s plot.
