TikTok and Rosalía Just Got a Latin Grammy Nomination Together

Speaking to Teen Vogue over email, Director of US Music Partnerships at TikTok Marisa Jefferies said the decision to partner with the Spanish wunderkind was “an absolute no-brainer.” Jefferies cites the singer’s many viral soundbites on the app — we needn’t remind you of the mixed reactions “Hentai” garnered when it started making the FYP rounds — but also her status as “a game-changing artist with a remarkable vision.”

“The community wrapped their arms around her music and the authentic TikToks she shared with the world, from stocking up on snacks for a road trip, to enjoying a day at the slopes she’s not afraid to be herself,” Jefferies says. “The performance was a smash success, and Rosalía continues to be one of the most beloved recording artists on the platform, with 26.1 million followers and over 740 million views on her videos just this year alone. To have the performance nominated for a Latin Grammy is a testament not only to Rosalía’s artistry, but also to underscore the role TikTok plays in offering endless opportunities for creators to express themselves.”

The Best Long Form Music Video category aims to highlight “video packages consisting of more than one song.” Rosalía’s Motomami TikTok Live Performance is nominated alongside Vetusta Morla’s long-form video Matria as well as documentaries like Siudy Garrido’s Bailaora – Mis Pies Son Mi Voz, Natalia Lafourcade’s Hasta la Raíz, and Romeo Santos’s King of Bachata.

The singer also racked up seven other nominations for the 23rd Latin Grammy Awards including Record of the Year for “La Fama”; Song of the Year, Best Alternative Song, Best Short Form Music Video for “Hentai”; as well as Best Alternative Music Album, Best Recording Package, and Best Engineered Album for Motomami.

The 2022 Latin Grammys will take place on Thursday, November 17 at the Michelob ULTRA Arena at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas and will be broadcast live on Univision.
